Today at the microprocessor forum AMD made its first demonstration of a dual Athlon processor system. The test system consisted of a computer powered by dual AMD Athlon processors, the forthcoming AMD-760 MP chipset, and Double Data Rate (DDR) memory. The demo ran 3D Studio Max, a 3D image/movie generation software that can utilize dual processor systems, known in the industry as SMP (Symmetric Multi Processing). This demonstration showed AMDs readiness to bring high-end workstations and enterprise solutions to the market. Rich Heye, vice president and general manager of AMD’s Texas Microprocessor Division, said “AMD’s dual processor platform is designed to take the extremely successful AMD Athlon processor into the enterprise markets that require multiprocessing workstation and server solutions.
