Portable Computing: Color Visor And Fast Grayscale Visor Released

Handspring Inc released its first color products in its Visor handheld computer line, the Visor Prism and the Visor Platinum. The Prism has 16 bit color (65,000 colors) for displaying picture-quality graphics as well as color games and maps. The Visor Platinum will be 4 bit (16 shades of gray) while utilizing the same Motorola DragonBall VZ 33 MHz processor as the Prism, making it the fastest palm OS handheld on the market today. Both models feature Handsprings Springboard expansion slot for their own and third party peripherals. Springboard Modules coming include GPS, an MP3 player, a color game pack, and IDEO is offering a software upgrade for their eyemodule to allow Prism and Platinum owners to take pictures with their Visor handhelds. The Visor Prism and Platinum cost U.S. $449 and $299, respectively. The Visor Prism is available in cobalt blue, and the Platinum in metallic silver.
