Ricoh Disc Media and Systems-Center division (DMS-C) has released a 10x rewritable in the form of the MediaMaster 12X writer, 10X Rewriter, and 32X reader. Thanks to the new Orange Book Part III, Volume 2, v1.0 standard released in May of 2000, consumers can now enjoy rewritable speeds that more than double the previous 4X, literally opening the bottleneck by increasing data flow from a paltry 600 kilobytes per second to a somewhat respectable 1.5 megabytes per second. The new MediaMaster MP7120A drive ships with Prassis abCD packet writing software, Prassis PrimoCD Plus premastering/audio/backup software, one Rocoh CD-R disc and one Ricoh CD-RW disc. The drive itself packs a 4MB memory buffer, digital S/PDIF plugs for outputting digital audio and newly developed lightweight pickup heads and controllers. Although shipping details wont be announced until July, Ricoh has made it clear that the MediaMaster package will only be sold exclusiviely through its Ricoh DMS website with a sticker price of $299.
